cheapness

So Microsoft has announced that the Zune (their iPod rival) will cost $229.99, which is $10 cheaper than the newly announced price on iPods. The Zune has a 3'' color screen for movie/tv watching. It also features an FM radio, and a wifi connection, which will allow users to listen to other users songs for 3 days before downloading. It'll be available in black, white or brown (why brown, I don't know... at least it's not pink i guess). There are rumors that future Zunes will include a camera similar to the ones in cell phones today. The way I see it, Apple does need a serious competitor in the mp3 player market. Granted, Microsoft is practically a monopoly on computers, but just imagine what competition will drive Apple to do... and I'm just an excited semi-techie waiting till her iPod dies to see what she'll buy next...

an apple a day...

So tomorrow (1pm Eastern time... yay!) Apple is having another big event in which they will (hopefully) unveil some cool new products. It could be anything from full-movie downloads on iTunes, to an iPhone, or maybe even a new iPod video (touchscreen?). Since my iPod is pretty old (3G...2003, but still with a 6hr battery life), I'm hoping for a new iPod... Maybe I could somehow afford it...
Apple's iPod has become a staple in many people's lives. Though the Motorola ROKR phone used iTunes, an iPhone would be quite amazing. The design and quality of Apple products is unmistakable, as well as the possiblity of several other awesome features. This could possibly be the ultimate mobile media accessory. Mp3 player, camera phone, bluetooth, who knows... All I can guarantee is that I will be rushing out of class to check out what news Apple has in store for me!

ahhh explosions!

If I had to choose two things I love in this world it would be computers and explosions. However, I prefer that these two passions remain as far away from each other as possible. By now you've heard of all the batteries in Apple and Dell computers blowing up left and right (339 cases recorded mostly all thanks to Sony). As the mother of a Dell laptop, and as the adoptive mother of an iBook, this really worried me. But I checked all the websites, compared serial numbers and such, and neither computer has a damaged battery. But then I came upon another reason to worry. Apparently the powers that be are planning on banning laptop computers from being used on planes. In that case, couldn't anything with a battery somehow explode? Are they going to ban iPods, PSPs, portable DVD players, etc? The reason a lot of New Media products are popular is because of their portability, and with portability comes battery power. Yeah, a computer could explode mid-flight, but someone could also accidently trip on your power cord (which is plugged under your cramped seat) and fall onto the beverage cart, which would then roll down the aisle and smack into a first class passenger who would then spill his $15 gin and tonic onto a sleeping socialite whose chihuahua would start barking and scare a flight attendant into the cockpit, accidently spilling hot coffee onto the pilot's lap, who would then scream in pain and let go of the joystick which would then cause the plane to spiral into oblivion and crash into a sleazy motel in Florida... Hey, it's possible...
Word.
