The Hospitality Highway - NMIX 4510

Hello, and welcome to my blog about UGA's New Media Institute!
This semester we'll be tackling NMIX 4510 - the capstone class of the NMI- where the students put the skills they have learned by becoming "techknowlegeable" into a real life new media scenario.

Our project this semester is the amazing Hospitality Highway, also known as Georgia 400. We'll be working alongside the Georgia Department of Economic Development to create a Converged Tourism Technology Platform, an amalgamation of information using all types new media for entertainment and educational purposes.

So, whether you're interested in traveling to the wonderful State of Georgia, or if you just want to get out of Atlanta for the weekend, keep reading and check back often. We'll have everything you need to know about the great things the Hospitality Highway has to offer!

sirius and XM

i still haven't gotten into the satellite radio thing, but it seems that xm and sirius will be merging, because apparently everyone else has failed to get on the satellite bandwagon.
i hear that appliances from both companies will continue to work and will eventually play stations from both groups.

still not jumping on the bandwagon. i bet ya satellite will die soon, but then again, i could be oh so wrong.

nokia and youtube

Nokia and youtube have partnered up to allow videos from youtube to be viewed on nokia phones.
I know nokia makes some nicer phones, but to me, iI just have that impression of nokias being those colorful bricks with exchangeable covers which everyone had in the ninth grade.
maybe this will change more people's minds about nokia...

google books

so google has officially announced their plans to expand their book search into an all out book downloading fiesta. they are having trouble getting publishers to agree, but eventually i think they will convince them with all their googley goodness. online books are good for whenever you need to read a book that's hard to find, or perhaps you crave reading only after the library is closed, but to a book collector like myself, it takes away from the whole physical book collection thing. perhaps i'll get all my books in google format and upload them to my ipod, a la my cd collection?

StorVision

This cool little gadget lets you save tv shows from your tivo or other dvr equipment, and then transfer it to your phone or gadget of choice.
Seems pretty cool if you're too cool for slingbox.
It's $180 bucks... But it's pretty and blue!

I just had to share

So in the spirit of Halloween, I had to share this Russian mp3 player prototype.
According to the creator of the "Saint B," this is the information given.
"Flash-player in a chrome-plated steel body frame.
Control elements and OLED-display are covered by flexible, semi-transparent plastic. A log in to the computer and charging are via USB port. "

YouMail

YouMail is a free service which allows people to record different voicemail messages for individual phone numbers calling you, based on caller ID info. Express your undying affection to your significant other, tell your creepy ex to buzz off, or show your sense of humor while remaining professional to your boss. I can see a great use for this product.
The pros:
It's free.
It's easy to use.
It's a good idea.
It could be very popular with people with lots of time on their hands, i.e. teens.
The cons:
Sends you a text message to inform of new voicemail, could get expensive.
Currently only works with Cingular, Verizon and T-Mobile.
No new sign ups are being allowed due to recent popularity.

As soon as it lets me sign up, I'm all in.
